LAMS caps 1st week with town hall meetings

Linden Avenue Middle School held town hall meetings with each grade level today to cap the first week of the new school year by discussing expectations, upcoming events and opportunities, and reconnecting.
Principal Dr. Stacie Fenn Smith and Assistant Principal Paul Brown reviewed school rules and behavior expectations, helping students understand how each day will go as they begin the new school year.
Several important topics were highlighted, including the school’s PBIS – or, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports – system, in which students can earn Raider Bucks to spend on special items by demonstrating positive behaviors and demonstrating the Raider Profile. Special recognition honors are rewarded with a Strever Buck, with 66 Raider Bucks, in honor of Math Teacher Martha Strever’s 66th year teaching in the building.
During the seventh-grade meeting, class advisors Lauren Cerulo and Andrew Strawinski shared how students can have a voice in their school community and develop leadership skills by running for a class officer position. In the eighth-grade meeting, students learned about a new Entrepreneurship elective in which they can learn to essential business skills while mastering resources like 3D printers, laser engraving tools and the Cricut maker tool.
Student Council Coordinators Sarah Hough and Michelle Keene also shared information about next week’s Spirit Week and Activity Night. This year’s theme was selected by members of the sixth-grade class, giving LAMS’ newest Raiders an opportunity to have a voice and help shape their new school community! 
LAMS is off to a great start to the year and the town halls were a great way to set the tone for what’s ahead!
