There was a fire at Red Hook High School this morning necessitating an early dismissal of all students.
All students were safely evacuated to Linden Avenue Middle School and were dismissed for the day at 11:15 a.m.
The fire alarm first went off at 10:22 a.m., triggering the evacuation. Families were notified soon after. First responders arrived within 8 minutes. The fire was brought under control by 10:45 a.m., though crews remained on the scene to assist with ventilating smoke and evaluate the building.
We thank the Red Hook, Tivoli, Germantown and Rhinebeck fire departments, as well as the Red Hook Police Department for responding to the school.
The fire began in a bathroom on the first floor's main hallway. The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage to the building is being assessed. The district will send communication to families as to when they may be able to enter the building this weekend to pick up any belongings that may be needed.

Mill Road Elementary School held an inaugural STEAM Camp in July 2025, giving students an opportunity to explore scientific and creative concepts through hands-on activities.
The five-day camp featured projects such as building bridges, catapults and marble runs using ping pong balls. On the final day, parents and guardians had the chance to visit and engage with projects and activities.
"I loved it," said Pedro Espinosa, who will be entering fifth grade. "It's the best camp I've ever been to."
The camp utilized the STEAM room located on the 3-5 side of the Mill Road building and was led by Principal Dr. Brian Boyd, Assistant Principal Kristen Strothmann, and STEAM teacher Sybil Bell.
"It's been everything we hoped it was going to be," Boyd said. "With STEAM, when you're talking about science, technology and the arts all together, it gets kids excited about learning."
